About Us The National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (NCADD in the Silicon Valley) promotes lifestyles free of the need for alcohol, nicotine and other drugs. NCADD in the Silicon Valley is a non-profit agency that started in San Jose in 1971 and is one of one hundred affiliates across the U.S. serving local communities providing education and training about alcohol, nicotine and other drugs and related issues. New Times for Addiction Recovery, and Teen Times NCADD in the Silicon Valley’s Addiction Newspapers New Times and Teen Times are free and produced 6 times each year. NT and TT have a list of 12-Step & other recovery contacts and a calendar of events on substance abuse and related issues. There are articles on and by noted experts in the field of addiction, related news, academic articles, professional items, personal recovery stories, poetry and art work. Friday Night Live (FNL) and Club Live (CL) - state-wide youth programs Research-based youth development programs, FNL & CL provide youth leadership skills through participation in conferences and group activities. Youth decide how to highlight their issues with each other and out in the community. FNL & CL are funded by the Santa Clara Valley Department of Alcohol & Drug Services.
NCADD Outreach • Drug, Alcohol and Tobacco Information Clearinghouse (DATIC) We have a Clearinghouse of the most up-to-date Information at our office – it is awesome!!! We can show you how you can order your own materials and keep up with the demands at you agency, school and community. Our Video Lending Library is extensive and can help you with your educational needs. We also have a designated computer at the office for you to go on-line to find more information in cyberspace. • Educational Classes NCADD provides many classes. Minors in Possession, Moving Beyond Anger and Controlled Substance and Alcohol Awareness are court or teacher/parent ordered; and Basic Addiction Education and Impulse Management Education in English and Spanish are provided through the Santa Clara Valley Department of Alcohol and Drug Services Managed Care system – call Gateway at (800) 488-9919. NCADD also provides Cessation Readiness (nicotine class for teens) and Orientation to Recovery classes in English, Spanish and Vietnamese. • Sober Fun • Health Fairs NCADD attends many Health Fairs to disseminate information on dealing with and recognizing addiction issues and problems relating to alcohol, nicotine and other drug use. We can participate in any Fairs at San Jose City Community Centers. • Speakers Bureau NCADD will come to any group requesting a speaker on specific substance use/abuse and addiction related issues. We can tailor the talk to the needs and wants of the group.
